Whitening
Want to brighten your smile?
The procedure typically involves a dentist or a trained dental hygienist applying peroxide gel, removing it and reapplying it several times. Professional whitening treatments can make teeth four to six shades whiter. Another benefit to in-office treatment is that your gums and mouth are protected while the teeth are brightened.
Whitening treatments can be effective on both extrinsic and intrinsic staining. Only natural teeth can be whitened; in most cases, tooth-colored restorations will not bleach (ex. Composite, crowns & implants). Carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide are commonly used in whitening interventions and can readily permeate dental hard tissues. Temporary tooth sensitivity and gingival inflammation are the most common adverse effects.
