We see many different children with many different needs. Some children will accept dental treatment, while others have more difficulty. Dr. Fatina will assess your child’s anxiety level and recommend the appropriate behavior management technique. Our goal is to complete your child’s dental treatment in a safe, comfortable way. Sometimes the help of sedative medications will allow your child to relax and feel comfortable. To help your child enjoy an anxiety-free and pain-free experience, we offer a variety of sedation options including nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and IV sedation.
Also known as “laughing gas,” this sedative approach helps children safely relax for minor dental procedures. The gas is applied through a mask, which goes over the child’s nose and mouth. The effects are mild and subside soon after the procedure is over.
IV sedation uses an intravenous needle to deliver medicines that cause a calming effect. Because these medicines work immediately, the onset of sedation happens much more quickly and allows all dental treatments to be completed.
Dr. Fatina and her team generally use IV sedation for patients requiring long and complex dental procedures as it's both highly effective, efficient, and allows us to safely control sedation for as long as necessary. Please contact our office if you have any additional questions.
